At Faith we believe baptism is an outward sign of our inward commitment to follow Jesus. Therefore, we do not baptize anyone until they have made their own decision to become a Christian. Until someone is old enough to understand and make their own choice to follow Christ, God’s grace covers them and there is no need to fear for their salvation.
We practice child dedication based on scriptural examples of parents dedicating their children to the Lord:
“So now I give him to the Lord, for his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshipped the Lord there. (1 Samuel 1:28)
When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been complete, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. (Luke 2:22)
While we call this ceremony Child Dedication, it is actually a commitment on the part of the parent to raise their child in the ways of the Lord. Our role as the church is to support you in that endeavor.
