Ingredients for a Thankful Life – Day 1

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Jeremiah 29:11

God has a perfect plan for our lives. In fact, he already had that plan for us even before we were formed in our mother's womb. Much like a chef cooking up a meal, God's put in us the right ingredients for us to make an impact. He designed us to lead prosperous lives to give us a hope and a future.

When we're making a meal, the quality of our ingredients matters: they complement the dish, improving its taste. Quality is far better than the quantity of ingredients: more isn't better. We don't need more friends, but we need quality from our friendships. We don't need more opportunities, but a select quality of opportunities. Many prepare days ahead for their Thanksgiving meals. They rarely just show up and throw a few things in the microwave. From-scratch takes more time, but it's worth it. Just like our family members know how to plan ahead to prepare the best meal, God does that with our lives. He wants to bring out the best in our families, but great families aren't built overnight. He wants our work to bear much fruit, but it takes time, effort, planning and goal-setting to get the promotion. Each ingredient plays a function that work together so that we lead flavor-filled lives.

You were created for purpose and destiny, and God has put in you the right ingredients to bring out the best in your relationships, families, careers and lives. Take time today to think about the ingredients he's given you: What is unique about you? What are your passions? Talents? Temperament? Spiritual gifts? Experiences? Ask God to help you see what he's given you to have a prosperous, hope-filled future. Write it down and add to it; ask others to contribute what they see. As you develop your list, you'll get a better picture of God's perfect plan for you.
